An Invitation to Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday: Will Due Process Be at the Party?

The Memphis Law Review seeks article proposals, speakers, and panel participants for a symposium on issues related to the history and evolution of due process, and what the future holds for this cornerstone of the American legal system.  The symposium will be held at Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Memphis, Tennessee on Friday, February 27, 2026.

We will accept abstracts until September 26, 2025.

The editors seek articles and speakers that address one or more of the following topics, or other related topics:

  • The roots of due process per the 5th and 14th amendments
  • International Human Rights and U.S. Due Process standards
  • Modern due process rights (substantive vs. procedural), and the current Supreme Court’s interpretation of substantive due process rights.
  • Recent Supreme Court decisions
  • Recent federal and local (Tennessee or surrounding states) laws, as well as recent Trump administration executive orders, that implicate due process rights
  • Immigration/deportation proceedings
  • The intersection of due process, AI, and other emerging technologies
  • Other related issues

In your proposal, please indicate whether you would be interested in (1) publishing your topic, (2) speaking at the symposium, or (3) both.  Priority will be given to proposals where the contributor expects to both publish and speak at our in-person event, although we will consider other proposals.

2.  Building strong working relationships in the editing process: We are committed to providing all the resources you need to produce the best version of your article.  We strive to form a meaningful connection with all our authors and provide a pleasant experience for both parties.  With a dedicated team of editors and staff, we will help elevate your voice and refine your argument through respectful feedback.

3.  Gaining broad exposure for your article at Volume 56’s Symposium: Participation at Memphis Law Review’s annual Symposium has consistently grown.  We seek to offer notable authors from a wide array of legal specialties the opportunity to speak to the surrounding legal community of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas.  Our primary goal is to increase citations of authors who publish in our journal.  Additionally, we wish to feature the speakers on multiple platforms to generate visibility for their current article as well as any future works.

The Call for Papers opens today with abstracts due September 26, 2025.  Please send abstracts to the Senior Symposium Editor, Anna Marie DeJarnette, at mdjrntte@memphis.edu.  Selected contributors will be notified by October 10, 2025.  Finished articles will be due Monday, February 2, 2026. Our editors will work with you to prepare your work for publication.  The symposium volume will be published and released in the summer of 2026.
